Photograph before removing
Take clear photos of the installed pulley, belt, shaft, guard and any remaining markings. Those images preserve orientation and service context that may be lost after disassembly.
Record the belt marking
If the belt is readable, photograph the full marking. It is often the quickest way to confirm whether SPA is the correct profile family.
Count the grooves and measure diameter
Record groove count and measure the outside diameter. If the existing documentation identifies a datum or pitch diameter, keep that label with the number rather than converting it casually.
Measure the shaft interface
Record shaft diameter, key width/depth where accessible and the hub or bushing arrangement. For taper-bush systems, photograph the bushing marking and screw pattern.

Measure axial geometry
Face width, hub length, offset and available shaft length can determine whether a replacement fits even when the belt profile and diameter match.
Add operating context
If the machine has had belt wear, vibration or overheating problems, include that information. The replacement process may need to check alignment or drive selection rather than only duplicate the old wheel.
